Hampton gas station assault suspect arrested: Man shot in face with flare gun, police say.

HAMPTON — A suspect who fled after allegedly firing a flare gun at a man, striking him in the face at a gas station was arrested Friday night, according to police.

Elton Stanley, 37, who has no fixed address, was taken into custody in Salisbury, Massachusetts, by the Northeast Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council just before midnight, according to Hampton Police Chief Alex Reno.

Police allege Stanley fired a flare gun at a person on Thursday, Sept. 28, at around 4 p.m. at the Speedway Gas Station on Lafayette Road (Route 1).

The Hampton Fire Department transported the person struck in the face to the hospital due to serious injuries, police said. He was hospitalized in stable condition, police said.

Police issued a warrant for Stanley's arrest that day after he fled the scene. Stanley is facing charges of second-degree assault and reckless conduct, according to Reno.

Police thanked the public for the tips provided that helped to locate Stanley. The Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council, which made the arrest, is similar to a SERT team.

Reno said Stanley is being held in Massachusetts until Hampton police can arrange his extradition to New Hampshire to face charges.
