Hampton man arrested for fatal Newport News shooting

Newport News police arrested a 38-year-old Hampton man Friday morning for a fatal shooting earlier this week.

Adrian Demetrice Williams is charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of 34-year-old Dominic Thompson, of Hampton. The shooting occurred Tuesday morning in the 600 block of J. Clyde Morris Boulevard, in the Watkins neighborhood.

Williams is also charged with robbery, possession of a firearm by a violent convicted felon, failure to appear on misdemeanor offense, contempt of court and conspiracy to commit a felony. Newport News police could not give information on the robbery or failure to appear in court.

Since Tuesday, police have asked for the public’s assistance identifying two men deemed “persons of interest” in the case and seen on video inside a Days Inn. Police identified one of the men as Williams with the help of citizen tips, said Newport News police spokesperson Kelly King.

The police continue to search for the second man seen in the video, Kelly said. The investigation is ongoing.
