Hampton police identify homicide suspect involved in shooting outside 7-Eleven

Hampton police have identified a suspect in connection to a shooting on July 16 that killed a man and injured another.

According to news release from police, Dwayne Demario Marrow, 31, of Newport News, is charged with murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and two counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony. Police said he is “armed and dangerous.”

Earlier this month, officers responded to the 7-Eleven convenience store located in the 4900 Block of W. Mercury Boulevard for reports of shots fired. At the scene, emergency services found 27-year-old Jahleel Angus, of Yorktown, dead at the scene. Another man walked into a hospital with serious injuries. After a preliminary investigation, police said “a large crowd gathered” in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven. Marrow approached and shot a firearm toward the men, striking each before running away on foot.

Angus’s family has set up a GoFundMe for funeral expenses. According to his obituary, Angus was “very humble, gentle, compassionate, caring, committed to family, considerate, quiet, respectful, loving and his mother’s keeper.”
