When 7,000 airline passengers are stranded in Gander, Newfoundland, following the events of 9/11, residents of the town stepped up to help, building transformative relationships in the process. “Come From Away” is inspired from remarkable true events and real people, as learned by creators David Hein and Irene Sankoff, who traveled to Newfoundland on the 10th anniversary of 9/11 to learn these stories. The Tony Award-winning play was also nominated for a Grammy Award in 2017 for Best Musical Theater Album. Directed by Tony winner Christopher Ashley, “Come From Away” was performed at the Des Moines Civic Center in November last year.
