Handful of high-profile city government spots still open as mayor navigates first week
EVANSVILLE — Mayor Stephanie Terry is officially in her Civic Center office, as are many of her appointees, but a few main roles have yet to be announced.
As of Wednesday morning, there has been no announcement on who Terry will tap to lead the Evansville Water and Sewer Utility, Evansville Police Department, Evansville Fire Department, Evansville-Vanderburgh County Central Dispatch, the Evansville-Vanderburgh County Building Commission or the Department of Metropolitan Development.
Of those still left to fill, the positions of police and fire chief, as well as the director of the EWSU, are the most public facing.
During her first news conference as mayor on Wednesday, Terry said more department head announcements will come later this week.
Police and fire chief announcements will come later this month, she said.
According to Terry's teamevasnville.com there were ample applicants for the department heads. The section leading people to join her administration now states applications are closed after hearing from "many strong candidates."
"We do encourage you to consider service on one of the many boards and commissions that help run our city," the site states.
