A small group of protesters demonstrated outside the Hennepin County Government Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on Monday, March 29, as police officer Derek Chauvin went on trial for the death of George Floyd.

Chauvin knelt on Floyd’s neck for around nine minutes during his arrest in Minneapolis on May 25, 2020. The incident sparked worldwide anti-racism and police brutality protests.

The trial, which was originally scheduled for March 8, began on Monday following a successful appeals process by prosecutors to reinstate a third-degree murder charge, and a delay in jury selection, reports said.

Chauvin is charged with second- and third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter in Floyd’s death.
