'The Handmaids Tale' Star Alexis Bledel and James Corden Top Most Dangerous Celebrity Search List
Actress Alexis Bledel has topped this year's most dangerous celebrities to search on the internet and the explanation as to why is very interesting.
Online security giant McAfee has put out its new list of the U.S. "most dangerous celebrities to search for online." The list is made to identify famous individuals who generate the riskiest results that could potentially expose their fans to malicious websites and viruses.
The list may come as somewhat of a shock to most people as it would seem Alexis wouldn't normally lead you to a website you normally associate with viruses.
But, the actresses starring role as Ofglen in Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale,” shot her risk factor to number one. To explain, the #3 most dangerous search term is Sophie Turner, and the two stars and their respective roles are how they landed at the top.
Alexis Bledel and Sophie Turner, are well known for their powerful roles on Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” and HBO’s “Game of Thrones.”
So, according to McAfee, their names are strongly associated with searches including the term “torrent.” Fans of each show are choosing to put their information at risk by searching for ways to watch the hit shows for free.
In many cases, by trying to avoid paying a subscription fee, these viewers are at a much higher risk of getting viruses associated with torrent or pirated downloads.
"Consumers may not be fully aware that the searches they conduct pose risk, nor may they understand the detrimental effects that can occur when personal information is compromised in exchange for access to their favorite celebrities, movies, TV shows or music,” said Gary Davis, chief consumer security evangelist at McAfee.
He continued, “Criminals use deceptive websites to dupe unsuspecting consumers into accessing malicious files or content. It is essential that consumers learn to protect their digital lives from lurking cybercriminals by thinking twice before they click on suspicious links or download content.”
Interestingly, reality show stars did not rank very high on the list in 2019, as compared to last year. Kim Kardashian is the highest-ranked reality star at No. 99.
