Hands-on pottery workshop highlights these 5 events happening in Brunswick

The Associated Artists of Southport will be hosting a studio workshop at Franklin Square Gallery featuring Andy Palmer.

Palmer, an accomplished ceramicist, art educator and gallery owner from Bakersville, will offer a two-day hands-on pottery workshop Feb. 11-12.

Brunswick Civil War Round Table

Noted authors and educators Judkin Browning and Timothy Silver will be the guest speakers for the next Brunswick Civil War Round Table meeting. Their presentation will be on "Slogging to Richmond: Environmental Influences on the Union Failed Peninsula Campaign, 1862."

Browning is professor of military history and director of the history graduate program at Appalachian State University.

Silver is a recently retired professor of environmental history at Appalachian State.

Union General George B. McClellan’s Peninsula Campaign of 1862 was meant to put an early end to the Civil War by capturing the Confederate capital of Richmond.

Any one interested in finding out why, can attend the meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7 at the Generations Church, 4019 Executive Park Blvd. SE, Southport. Registration begins at 6:15 p.m. The visitor fee is $10, which can be applied toward the $25 annual membership dues and can include a spouse.

Orthopedic surgeon/author to speak

Sunset River Gallery presents its Coffee with the Authors program with speaker Thomas Kelso.

Kelso, a practicing local orthopedic physician, is well known for his thrillers, which are based on current innovations in medicine and science. His current novel is "Stability Island," third in his Mark Thurman series.

Kelso will will speak 11 a.m.-noon Thursday, Feb. 9 at the gallery, located at 10283 Beach Drive SW, Calabash. Coffee, tea, and breakfast treats will be served. The event is free, but seating is limited, reservations required.

Coastal Consumer Showcase

The Coastal Consumer Showcase, an event of the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce, will provide Brunswick County residents a one-stop-shop to see products and services that local businesses offer.

The event will be held 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9 at the St. James Community Center, 4136 Southport-Supply Road SE, St. James. Admission is free.

'Moon Over Buffalo'

Brunswick Little Theatre presents "Moon Over Buffalo," a madcap comedy tradition of Lend Me a Tenor, the hilarious "Moon Over Buffalo" centers on George and Charlotte Hay, fading stars of the 1950s.

"Moon Over Buffalo" will be performed 7:30 p.m. Feb. 9-11 and a matinee performance at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12 at 8068 River Road, S.E., Southport.
