Hanford grad leaves mark on student media. Now she’s Headed to WSU for broadcasting
Lauren Burke is passionate about keeping her classmates at Hanford High School informed.
Burke, a senior, has become very involved in the school and community through her student media work. She represented Hanford High in the public arena as a Washington Journalism Education Association representative when she interviewed State Superintendent Chris Reykdal, and was also named to the Student Television Network Honor Society.
Burke was part of the Local Association Student Council, where leaders from surrounding high schools meet and work together to improve their leadership. With a focus of student outreach, she joined a group of other student leaders to create the Hanford Happenings newsletter.
“I love learning about everyone and having the opportunity to reach many people and see an impact on the people I’ve met and the places I’ve been,” Burke told the Herald.
Burke has been in student body leadership at Hanford for four years. She was the vice president from her freshman to junior year and during her senior year, she was the executive senior recognitions officer.
Putting school first and her personal events aside, Burke has had a positive impact on Hanford High being involved with different clubs. She works with broadcasting live sports and other events.
This past school year, Burke helped students in the Community Based Transition Center to create videos. She was also a part of the Falcon Report and leader of the Hanford Student Media.
Burke will be attending Washington State University in Pullman this fall. She plans on continuing to pursue her passion in broadcasting and photography.
