Hanley Foundation's Palm Beach dinner returns to restore dreams and families

Absence does indeed make the heart grow fonder.

Just ask the folks who turned out for the Hanley Foundation's annual Palm Beach dinner, which was on hiatus for more than a year because of the pandemic.

The "Dreamcatcher" event took place March 31 at the Sailfish Club.

Judy Van der Grift and Stacey Leuliette were chairwomen for the evening, which included plenty of hugs, handshakes and "how-have-you-been?" conversations.

And those little bottles of hand sanitizer stashed in the minaudière, because you never know.

Fritz van der Grift was chairman.

The night began with a cocktail/mocktail reception and silent auction, followed by dinner and remarks from Turner Benoit, chief philanthropy officer for the Hanley Foundation.

“After a year hiatus because of the pandemic, we are thrilled to be back for our annual Palm Beach dinner,” Benoit said.

“Our mission is combating addiction — a disease that can rob those affected of their lifelong dreams. Last year, Hanley Foundation provided prevention programming for over 50,000 children and treatment scholarships for more than 300 individuals in need of quality care. With your continued support, more dreams will be restored, more families will be reunited, and more lives will be saved," he said.

The night continued with dessert and dancing.

Host committee members included Inger, Kent and Loy Anderson; Nellie, Quinn and Whitmore Benoit; Sissy Armstrong, Lyanne Azqueta, Fletcher Baker, Mary and Kane Baker, Blair and Kenny Beall, Jason Briggs, Kristina and Austin Bryan, Liza and Bob Calhoun, Briggs and Nicholas Coleman, Kim and Payson Coleman, Carissa and Nick Coniglio, Rachel and Steve Docekal, Kelly Williams and Andrew Forsyth, Denise and Dan Hanley, Anne Hurley, Liz Matthews and Chip James, Charlene and Richard Johnson, Susan and Mike Kirkpatrick, Ivey and Bobby Leidy, Cindy and Tim Leuliette, Sydney and Peter McKelvy, Dede and Laddy Merck, Whitney Miller, Lev Miller, Cat Miller, Mayor Danielle Moore, Muffie and Stephen Murray, David G. Ober, Piper Quinn, Eddie Schmidt and Ozzie Medeiros, Corey Saban, Wendy and Phil Scuderi, Jessica and Trent Swift, Joanie Van der Grift, Juliet and Alex Warner, and Victoria Willard.

More than 250 people attended the event, which raised more than $500,000 for Hanley's lifesaving programs.
