Hanover Against Hunger partners with local businesses, seeks volunteers

Local nonprofit Hanover Against Hunger is seeking volunteers and hosting events with local business in support of their sixth-biennial meal packing event in November.

The local organization, which said to date it has assembled over 300,000 meals and raised over $90,000, is planning to pack an additional 200,000 meals this year, according to a news release.

In order to do that, volunteers will be packing meals over the course of two days at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Hanover.

The organization asked that all volunteers register online at www.hanoveragainsthunger.org, and select a day and time that they would like to volunteer, with the choice of Saturday, Nov. 4, or Sunday, Nov. 5. Donations towards the supplies needed are additionally accepted on their website.

Partnerships with local business

Along with the main meal packing event, the organization has partnered with local Hanover businesses to raise money towards supplies needed to meet their goals.

The Hanover Area Arts Guild is currently hosting a silent art auction that will go until 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30. The auction features 23 works of art by local artists, including several pieces that feature scenes from downtown Hanover. Bids are accepted online at the auction's website, and winners will be informed via email.

Along with the art auction, downtown brewery Sign of the Horse Bierhaus will be hosting a "Hops against Hunger" event from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Oct. 7, 2023. As part of this collaboration, Sign of the Horse has created a special beer for the occasion in support of Hanover Against Hunger.

The evening will also feature games of cornhole and live music by the Boomers Classic Rock Band.
