Hanover Area’s Elementary School holds free shopping event

HANOVER TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A local elementary school is taking its students shopping free of charge.

Hanover Area’s Elementary School held its free shopping event Monday evening, welcoming all students and their families in the district.

At the shop, families can get whatever they need at no charge.

All of the new and gently used clothes in the store are donated by the community and even recycled by those who have shopped in the past.

“Sometimes it is hard financially for many of our district families, so for them to be able to come in, you know, at ease with no judgment is a big deal,” said Hanover Area Memorial Elementary School Principal Christa Langdon.

“Being in the world today it’s hard to even purchase food let alone clothing for the kids. They go through about two growth spurts a year and it saves me probably hundreds of dollars,” said Hanover resident Teri Mendygral.

To donate to the school’s free store or to set up a time to shop, you can send an email to clangdon@hanoverarea.net for more information.
