Conan O’Brien has revealed that the set of his talk show was burgled over the weekend (25-26 October).

Appearing on Conan on Monday (26 October), the TV host told audiences that their make-shift set at the Largo Theatre in Los Angeles had been broken into.

“We came to this theatre because we thought theatres are in trouble… seemed like a nice thing to do,” O’Brien said. “What happens? We get here this morning and we find out that someone broke into our little theatre and took some of the equipment we use to make the show.

“We got robbed, Andy,” he told co-host Andy Richter. “Robbed!”

Conan has had to film without a studio audience due to the pandemic, meaning that the seats of the Largo Theatre have been filled by cardboard models of the show’s viewers.

“Whoever broke in here had to stare at what I think is about 350 cardboard cutouts of exuberant fans in the eyes and say, 'Hey, don't mind me, I'm going to steal some s***’,” O’Brien continued.

He then explained that a couple of laptops had been stolen, as well as the director’s slate used to start the show.

“What happened to us,” an incredulous O’Brien asked.

“This kind of s*** isn’t happening to other late-night shows... We’ve become this garage band that drives around, we’ve got our van parked in an alley and someone broke in and took our amp.”
