Marking 75 years of maple sweetness, the Pennsylvania Maple Festival is April 23-24, and April 27-May 1 in Meyersdale. Tiny Steps of Hope Basket Bash

32nd Great American Auction

The Community Arts Center of Cambria County 32nd Great American Auction, hosted in the Community Arts Center’s Atelier, is April 8. The preview begins at 4:30 p.m. and auctioneer Dale Mishler of Mishler Auction Services will start the bidding at 5:30 p.m. The auction is an annual fundraiser to aid in the annual operation costs of the Community Arts Center of Cambria County. The evening consists of a live auction with a new spin that includes a high-end silent auction and a raffle. There will be food for purchase: pizza, hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and beverages.

All attendees can register for free at the door. The auction includes new merchandise, gift baskets, gift cards and gift certificates, along with antiques and collectibles, and gently used items. There are coupon vouchers for Avalon and Viking River Cruises, as well as a coupon voucher for Sandals or Beach all-inclusive resort booking. There is also a brand new 55” Sony Smart TV with HD Blu-ray and DVD player, which includes the installation. There is an abundance of 80 miscellaneous gift cards and certificates and tickets to events both local and statewide.

'Tastes of the Town'

Ligonier Valley Historical Society’s 29th annual “Tastes of the Town,” 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. April 21, at The Barn at Ligonier Valley, 1 Springer Road, to raise funds in support of new and ongoing educational initiatives, archeological studies and preservation efforts at Compass Inn Museum. Participants will enjoy tasting mouth-watering appetizers, entrées, desserts and pastries from the area's finest restaurants, bakeries and delis. Community Easter Celebration

A “Free Community Easter Celebration” will be held from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. April 9, at New Beginnings Outreach Center Church complete with the True Meaning of Easter, crafts, games, egg hunt with prizes and lots of candy, and a luncheon for ages 0-12. Berlin's Bunny Hop

Berlin's Bunny Hop hosted by Cup of Soul Cafe 9 a.m. April 2. Children 12 and under can pick up a scavenger hunt at Cup of Soul Café. They will then walk the town in search of bunnies that will be placed in the storefront of participating businesses. Each business will have a unique bunny. Once a bunny is found, children must ask the business to initial the matching bunny on their sheet. Children returning a completed form to the café will be entered to win a basket full of goodies. Cup of Soul will also have Easter-themed guessing games, a photo booth and the regular menu of goodies and Easter gifts and ideas for the entire family.

Uptown Painting Party

Uptown Painting Party, 101 W Main St., Somerset, Easter event is at noon April 9. Ticket includes painting ceramic Easter eggs with the Easter Bunny. Pleasant Hill UMC 'Rise Against Hunger'

Members of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 810 Pleasant Hill Road, Friedens, will host volunteers from several other local churches connected with Somerset Area Ministerium and the community to buy and package thousands of meals for Rise Against Hunger, an international hunger relief nonprofit that coordinates the packaging and distribution of food and other aid to people in developing nations. Volunteers will work together from 9-11 a.m. April 2, to measure portions and seal them in bags labeled for distribution to hungry people around the world. Contact the Rev. Spring Fling Craft & Vendor Show

The teams of the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of Somerset annual Spring Fling Craft/Vendor Show is from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. April 2, at the Somerset Area Junior High cafeteria and gymnasium, with more than 50 of the area’s most popular crafters, vendors and businesses represented. There will also be a large basket raffle, opportunity to purchase luminaria to be displayed at the Relay For Life to be held in June and more. Relay teams will have a variety of homemade food available including ham pot pie, pasta salad, hot dogs, nachos, sloppy joes, cabbage and noodles, desserts and more. Admission and parking are free. The Somerset Church of the Brethren Community Easter Egg Hunt is at 11 a.m. April 16. The Easter Egg Hunt is for children 12 months through sixth grade. It will be an indoor event at 606 Berlin Plank Road in Somerset.

Celebrities & Educators vs. Sitting Bulls Sled Hockey Team

Basket raffle, chuck-a-puck and 50/50 will be included in the Celebrities & Educators vs. The Sitting Bulls Sled Hockey Team — a team for the physically disabled — April 3, at the 1st Summit Arena, Cambria County War Memorial, 326 Napoleon St., Johnstown. Doors open at 1 p.m. Game starts at 2:45 p.m. Every ticket includes a chance to win two Penguins tickets for the Penguins vs. Capitals April 8 game and $250 cash.

Craft Show

A craft show at Rock City Cafe in Rockwood, is set for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 2, and noon to 4 p.m. April 3. Food will be available. There will be a silent auction to benefit the food pantry. Rock City will be take out only on April 2.

A Spring Craft Fair at the Shade Sportsmen's Club is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 9. More than 20 vendors. Assembly of God Church will be selling pagache, halushki, hot dogs, chili and baked goods. Keri's Gourmet Cupcakes will be there.

Movie night

The Garrett United Methodist Church will have another movie night at 6 p.m. April 3, at the church at 800 Walker St., Garrett. The movie is "Amish Grace." When a tragedy takes the lives of five Amish school girls in Pennsylvania, the mother of one of the girls faces a profound test of faith. As she begins to feel like an outsider within her own community, Ida must decide whether or not to stay with the Amish. This film is a testament to the power of forgiveness. Snacks will be served following the movie.

Easter Egg Hunt

The Somerset Jaycees Easter Egg Hunt is at 1 p.m. April 9, at the Georgian Place. Rain date is April 16. Snacks are offered after the hunt. Some eggs contain a voucher for a special prize. All vouchers must be redeemed at the time of the event and will not be honored after the event is over.
