SANDUSKY, Ohio (WJW) — Though Cedar Point doesn’t start its 2024 season until May 4, some sky-watchers are getting in early for a rare view of Northeast Ohio’s total solar eclipse on April 8.

They’ll see it from atop one of the amusement park’s 200-foot-tall coasters.

These schools will close for the total solar eclipse

Cedar Point plans to open up some of its rides on The Boardwalk and in Kiddy Kingdom for its special Total Eclipse of the Point event from noon to 6 p.m. on April 8. It’s “a once-in-a-lifetime celestial celebration as Cedar Point sits directly in the path of totality,” reads the website.

The Boardwalk’s Grand Pavilion Restaurant and Bar will also be serving up specialty food and drinks. A live DJ, kids activities, games and more are in the plans.

The top tier $199 VIP package adds a 30-minute viewing experience and eclipse photo opportunities atop the Valravn roller coaster. The VIP packages appear to already be sold out, having been offered in “extremely limited quantities.”
