What’s Happening in South Sound this week

Sunday, Aug. 7

Summer Shark Spree: This recurring event will be at the Puget Sound Estuarium from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be shark-themed games and activities for kids. Admission to the Estuarium will be free all day.

Monday, Aug. 8

Mom and Me Cookies and Canvas Party: This painting class will be for moms and kids at Lacey’s Chick-fil-A at 8302 Quinault Drive NE. Adults will be able to paint on larger canvases while children will get smaller ones. The class starts at 5:30 p.m. but participants should arrive early to get checked in and find a seat. Tickets range from $40 to $90 depending on how many kids come to the event.

Tuesday, Aug. 9

Lacey In Tune: This Lacey In Tune event will feature a Children’s Comedy Variety Show. Like other Lacey In Tune performances, this free event will be at Huntamer Park, 618 Woodland Square Loop SE. The show will have magic tricks, juggling, and music and will encourage participation from the audience. It will start at 6:30 p.m.

Sip and Paint at Top Rung Brewing: At 6 p.m., participants will be able to enjoy 10% off of a drink at Top Rung Brewing and paint a ‘Totes my Goats’ picture. The event will be at 8343 Hogum Bay Lane NE in Lacey. All participants must be 21 years of age or older. Tickets for this event are $40.

Wednesday, August 10

Veterans Town Hall: This event will be from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Yelm Community Center at 301 2nd Street in Yelm. Community partners will be sharing information about plans and services that help Veterans and their families in the area. This will be an opportunity for Veterans to learn more about the services they can use.

Yoga with Elizabeth: Some yoga experience is recommended for this class from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Participants will work on mobility and stability. This class will be at The Sanctuary, 1522 Fourth Ave. E. in downtown Olympia. Classes are $15.

Thursday, Aug. 11

HUGSFest 2022: This festival lasts from Thursday, Aug, 11 to Sunday, Aug. 14 at Peace Valley Farms, 2620 W Little Egypt Road, Shelton. Starting at noon, visitors can enjoy live music from all around the world. There also will be food vendors and arts and crafts vendors. A four-day pass for camping is $140. Parking passes are $10 for every day except Sunday, which is $5. Those 17 and under can get in for free with an adult present. Entry to the festival is $30 on Thursday, $60 on Friday, $70 on Saturday and $20 on Sunday.

Play in the Parks: Play In the Parks will bring Parrot Ambassadors to Huntamer Park, 618 Woodland Square Loop SE in Lacey. At 2 p.m. five to six parrots will perform tricks such as talking and roller skating. The event is free.

Friday, Aug. 12

Heathens of Wild Lore concert with Garrett Holbrook: This event will be at the Boston Harbor Marina, 312 73rd Ave NE. The show starts at 6 p.m. and will feature vocals, percussion, guitar and bass. The set list is two hours long and the event is free.

Saturday, Aug. 13

Stories in the Park, Stories in the Dark: This event will be at 7 p.m. at Squaxin Park, 2600 East Bay Drive NE, Olympia. The South Sound Story Guild will tell stories such as folktales, personal stories and scary stories. Bringing lawn chairs is recommended. Dog Park Meetup: The event has been co-organized with the Olympia Dachshund Meetup and will have a special area for small dogs, a sand and gravel area, fencing, paths and water stations. The event will be at 2420 Hogum Bay Road NE in Lacey from 2-3:30 p.m.

Karaoke Showdown: This event will be at Scott Manor at 4331 Abigail Drive NE in Lacey. From 6-10 p.m., participants can perform or enjoy karaoke. There will also be food options provided at the event.

Black Lake Hydro Regatta: This event will start at noon on both Saturday, Aug. 13 and Sunday, Aug. 14. Viewing is available for those interested at Evergreen Shores Beach Club, 7540 Lakeside Street SW in Olympia.

Sunday, Aug. 14

BK5K: This running event will be at the Regional Athletic Complex at 8345 Steilacoom Road SE. The 5k will begin at 8 a.m. and the 1k will start at 9:15 a.m. Race day registration is accepted. Online registration ends on Thursday, Aug. 11.
