Woodward-Granger High School Blood Drive

9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14 at Woodward-Granger High School Parking Lot.

Woodward-Granger High School will host a LifeServe Bloodmobile drive on Friday, Oct. 14 in the high school parking lot. Sign up for a slot online.

Shred Event

10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15 at Perry Public Library's south parking lot.

The Perry Public Library will host a document shredding event for Perry residents from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 15. Anyone with documents to shred is invited to bring them to the library’s south parking lot (enter on Railroad Street) during those hours for on-site shredding. There is no charge for the service but donations will be accepted.  This event is sponsored by the city of Perry and the Perry Public Library. Fall Market #1

10:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15 at Perry Public Library Community Room.

By popular demand from both shoppers and vendors, a series of Fall Markets have been scheduled to take place at the Perry Public Library Community Room on the 3rd Saturday of the month – Oct. 15, Nov. 19 and Dec. 17. These Fall Markets will host a limited number of vendors per market, but are expected to have a wide variety of offerings, including seasonal produce, jams and jellies, fresh baked goods and handcrafted items. The October Fall Market vendors (subject to change) include: Daniel Wilson and Gretchen York | Wilson Farm Produce; Janice Patrick | Brintons Bakery - jams/jellies and baked goods; Ruth Cave - baked goods; Jessica Lavicky - baked goods; Missy, Esther and Jackie McCord - baked goods and handcrafted items; Fred and Pam Pruitt | Made By Us - windchimes; Mykela and Donna Beasley - handcrafted gifts and artwork; Carrie Cavanaugh | Barefoot Books. The Healthy Steps Produce Giveaway continues at the Fall Farmers Market with free winters squash while supplies last. All alternative currency programs will be honored at the Fall Farmers Markets unless they have an expiration date.

Vintage Craft: Rock Candy

11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15 at Carnegie Library Museum.

Hometown Heritage at the Carnegie Library Museum will hold a free vintage craft program featuring the making of Rock Candy on Saturday, Oct. 15. Everyone is invited to join Trista Cohea at the Carnegie Library Museum and participate in this family-friendly program. No registration is needed. 1931 Dance

7-11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15 at Lake Robbins Ballroom.

The Friends of Lake Robbins will host a 1931 Dance on Saturday, Oct. 15 to raise funds for a new roof. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. with free Charleston lessons at 6:30 p.m. The dance will be held from 7-11 p.m. with live music from Close Enough. The event will also feature prizes for best dressed to the era and best dancer along with a bake sale and silent auction. Residents can bid on items online or at the dance. The cost is a $15 cover with food available for $10 along with a full bar.

Bouton's Haunted Church

7-10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15 at 111 State St., Bouton.

The Bouton Fire Department will host a haunted church from 7-10 p.m. every Saturday night in October. Admission is $5 per person.

Hats, Hats and More Hats

2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16 at Carnegie Library Museum.

Vintage hats will be the focus of a Hometown Heritage at the Carnegie Library Museum program, on Sunday, Oct. 16. The featured hats are from the Forest Park Museum collection and they will be on exhibit at the Carnegie Library Museum from Oct. 1-31. Those attending the program on Oct. 16 who wear a hat will receive a free cookie from a local baker. Everyone is invited to attend this free program and no registration is needed. Cindy Axne Meet and Greet

10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 17 at Perry Perk.

US Congresswoman Cindy Axne is hosting a Meet and Greet at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 17 at Perry Perk. Please take this opportunity to hear her thoughts on public policy and share your questions and concerns. This event is open to the public.

Woodward Social Center Luncheon

11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17 at Woodward Social Center.

The Woodward Social Center's luncheon has been rescheduled for Monday, Oct. 17. The menu includes beef burgers, cheesy potatoes, baked beans, coleslaw and desserts. A free-will offering will be taken to support the Woodward Social Center.

Trunk or Treat

6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20 at Dallas County Fairgrounds.

Dallas County Clover Kids and 4-H Clubs will be decorating their trucks and passing out candy at Truck or Treat on Thursday, Oct. 20. Come trick-or-treating to each trunk and see how they decorated their trunk. There will be a prize for the best 4-H club decorated trunk. Dallas County businesses are welcome to participate. Businesses are invited to come in costume with candy, swag, or something to share. Businesses looking to participate should complete the short form at go.iastate.edu/DCGHNZ.

Fall-o-ween Sip & Shop

4-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21 at Perry businesses.

Enjoy an after hours shopping experience at Perry businesses from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21. Shop fall apparel, décor, and more while sipping complimentary refreshments at each location. Refreshments and in-store offerings vary per location. Participating businesses to be announced soon on the Perry Chamber's Facebook page. Save the date for the Holiday Sip & Shop: Friday, Nov. 18.

Public Safety Open House

8:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22 at Granger Fire Department.

Join the Granger Fire Department for an open house event from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22. This event is for community members of all ages. There will be free coffee and donuts. The fire department will also have information available about all of the different programs it offers, unveiling images and plans for a future public safety building, as well as lots of swag to take home.

Elks Hoop Shoot

11 a.m. Saturday, Oct 22 at Perry High School Gym.

Perry Elks Lodge #407 will host the Elks Hoop Shoot on Saturday, Oct. 15. The Elks Hoop Shoot, funded by the Elks National Foundation, is a free throw contest for children ages 8-13. Age-group is determined by the contestant's age as of April 1, 2023. The doors will open at 10 a.m. for registration followed by the contest at 11 a.m. at the Perry High School Gym.

Fall Fish Fry

5-7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22 at Washington Township School, south of Perry corner of F31 and P58.

The Minburn American Legion Post #99 Fall Fish Fry will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22 at the Washington Township School. The menu will include fried fish, coleslaw, French fries, drink and a dessert. A free-will donation will be taken.
