Day one of the UIL girls state golf tournament has come and gone. One local competitor found herself in as good of a position as she could be in and others put up a strong display as well. Let's take a look at the standings through Monday.

CLASS 1A

That competitor in as good a position as she could be? That would be Halee Jo Johnson of Happy, who led the pack through the first day of action.

Johnson's score of 81 placed her first among all 1A competition and two strokes ahead of second place. That effort was a big reason Happy is in second place as a team with a score of 408. Aimee McCarley's score of 90 played a big part as well, and put her in fourth place individually.

Additionally, Chloe Carson of Booker was tied for 12th place with a score of 99 along with Happy's Jessica Smith.

CLASS 2A

Memphis finished the first half of the competition in a strong position with a score of 381. That score was good enough for third place overall, six strokes behind second place and 21 behind first.

On an individual level, Memphis placed two golfers in the top 10 entering Tuesday. Maggie Smith was tied for sixth place with a score of 87, while Kiyonna Mathews was tied for eighth with a score of 89.

Brendi Brown of Stratford was tied for 38th with a score of 104.

CLASS 3A

Though far out of the running for first place, Childress was in a good spot nonetheless after day one.

Childress ended the day in fourth place with a score of 369, but was just 10 points out of second place. Leading the way was Elena Jurado, who was tied for fifth place at 79.

Jurado wasn't alone in the top ten, however. Bushland junior Logan Culpepper found herself tied for seventh place with a score of 80 at the end of the first day.

CLASS 5A

There was just one golfer representing the area in 5A, but she put on a show.

Charlee Thacker of Amarillo High ended the first day tied for seventh place with a score of 76. She was just two strokes out of sole possession of fourth place and three strokes from tying for third.
