Harbor Springs High School celebrates its top graduates

HARBOR SPRINGS — As commencement approaches, Harbor Springs High School is celebrating its 2023 valedictorians and salutatorian.

This year, five graduates are crossing the stage with the valedictorian status, all ending high school with a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Valedictorian announcements

Josephine Baker
Josephine Baker

The first graduate, Josephine Baker, will be crossing the stage as valedictorian this June, with plans to attend the University of Vermont to study environmental sciences.

Her parents are Molly Ames Baker and Josh Baker. Throughout high school, she was on the school’s cross country and soccer teams. She was also in the swim club, Michigan Youth in Government, Key Club, jazz band, and served as the student council’s executive president and National Honor Society’s secretary.

Isabel Dunn
Isabel Dunn

Isabel Dunn, the daughter of Mark and Liz Dunn, plans to attend Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts. She will be a member of the swim team there.

In high school, she was a member of the Hammerhead Swim club, Quiz Bowl, SAFE in Northern Michigan, the Creative Writing Club, and a youth advisor to the Petoskey District Library board.

Shirley Mogford
Shirley Mogford

Shirley Mogford plans to attend Northern Michigan University to study special education and early education. Her parents are Ko-Ko Loar-Mogford and Robert Mogford.

Throughout high school, she helped foster cats and kittens, was a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club, student council and tennis team.

Kyra Shouldice
Kyra Shouldice

Kyra Shouldice plans to attend Albion College to study biology, where she will be running cross country and track and field. Following college graduation, she plans to go to medical school to become an allergist. Her parents are Julie Samu Shouldice and William Shouldice.

Throughout high school, she participated in the cross country, track and field and ski teams. She also was a member of the band, Quiz Bowl, National Honor Society, Key Club, Creative Writing Club, and SAFE in Northern Michigan.

Maja Thompson
Maja Thompson

Maja Thompson will be crossing the stage as valedictorian as well. Daughter of Jeannette Roesner and Paul Thompson, she plans to attend the University of Michigan to study computer science and engineering. Afterwards, she hopes to get a master's degree and travel.

She was a member of the girls varsity tennis team and Quiz Bowl team.

Salutatorian announcement

Griffin Hunt
Griffin Hunt

Graduating with a 3.9 GPA and as salutatorian, Griffin Hunt is the son of Tracy and Samuel Hunt.

After graduation, he plans to attend Michigan Technological University to study mechanical engineering.

In high school, he was on the tennis and golf teams, and participated in theater, band and jazz band. He was also a member of the National Honor Society.

The Harbor Springs 2023 graduation ceremony is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on June 4.
