Harbor Springs to host Night of the Arts, Movies in the Park next Tuesday

HARBOR SPRINGS — Harbor Springs will celebrate the beginning of summer with two events next Tuesday.

The first — the annual Night of the Arts — will kick off the night from 5:30-8:30 p.m. It is aimed at bringing people downtown to enjoy all things related to the arts.

"This is a premiere night for people to visit and celebrate our artists but to also allow ourselves to expand our thought process on what art is," said Harbor Springs Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Bonnie Kulp.

"Art isn't just the traditional mediums of painting, glasswork or pottery. It includes music, florists and even food too. That is what this event is all about," she said.

Kulp has made it her mission to expand the annual event to include these extra offerings. This year's event will feature over 25 art galleries, musicians around town, florists making bouquets and more.

"I'm really excited about this night," said Kulp.

"It's a really great event right before the Fourth of July as people come out of hibernation a bit and as people come back to the area. It's a great way to reconnect with one another and all our wonderful shops and businesses," she said.

Following the Night of the Arts, Harbor Springs will also be kicking off its summer Movies in the Park in Zorn Park.

The Harbor Springs Chamber of Commerce will host its first Movies in the Park movie this coming Tuesday, June 28.

The upcoming summer movie series is free and will take place three times on Tuesdays throughout the summer including Tuesday, June 28, July 12 and July 26.

"We decided to do this as people are around and it's just one of those things. Town gets quiet in the evening and this would be a fun thing for people still looking for something to do," said Kulp.

"So, we are inviting everyone to come down with their lawn chairs or blankets and see a free movie here in Zorn Park," she said.

All of the upcoming movies are free with popcorn provided by the Lyric Theate and will take place in Zorn Park at dusk on an inflatable screen.

All of the upcoming movies are family friendly and are as follows:

  • Tuesday, June 28 — "The Greatest Showman"

  • Tuesday, July 12 — "The Secret Life of Bees"

  • Tuesday, July 26 — "Mrs. Doubtfire"

"We are really looking forward to this and seeing families come out to enjoy a movie," said Kulp.

"Everyone and anyone can join us for a fun evening and something a little different to do here in Harbor Springs."
