Temperatures plummet overnight with more snow expected Friday

So far, Seattle hit 27 degrees, making it the coldest morning of the fall, but not a record yet and not the coldest day of the year.

However, it’s COLD! A few flurries or light snow showers are in the South Sound Friday morning, but the air is so dry I don’t expect much. Anything that does fall should fall as snow, so don’t be surprised if you see a few light snow showers to start your day.

From there, most of the day looks mostly dry outside of a few random showers ahead of the main front for Friday night, especially in the Hood Canal. Highs will bump into the upper-30s and lower-40s.

More snow on the way before a drier weekend

Then tonight another weather system will move in. This is going to be weaker and centered a little farther offshore than Tuesday’s weather system, but we’ll watch for accumulating snow tonight mainly west of Puget Sound. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect parts of the King/Pierce County line, west to Bremerton and north to the Skagit/Whatcom County line, including Seattle. We could see trace amounts to an inch or two of snow, or rain mixed with snow. Heavier snow should fall west of Puget Sound into the Hood Canal area, where this is a Winter Storm Warning in effect. We could see 2-8″ of snow, with around 4-6″ around Hoodsport to Seabeck and around 1-3″ for the rest of that area.

For locations along Puget Sound, there will likely be some snow or rain/snow mix, but accumulations late Friday into Friday night look to be pretty spotty with perhaps an inch or two from around the Seattle area north, but quickly coming to an end in the wee hours of Saturday morning.

From there, the weekend will be dry with increasing sun on Saturday. Clouds to increase Sunday with the potential for a few showers Sunday night, but we should be mostly dry.
