Hard Rock Cafe in Downtown Memphis will close this summer

The Hard Rock Cafe in Downtown Memphis will be closing.

The restaurant filed a notice with the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development Wednesday that it would be permanently closing at the end of July. A total of 52 workers will lose their jobs, according to the WARN notice.

"The employees at the facility are not represented by a collective bargaining agreement. The GreaterMemphis Local Workforce Development Area rapid response team, employed by Workforce Midsouth, hasbeen notified to coordinate services with the employer and affected employees," according to the notice.

The restaurant originally opened at 315 Beale St. in 1997 before moving to the current location at 126 Beale St. in 2014.

"The loss of the Hard Rock and their 52 employees will be felt across the entertainment district. We look forward to what comes next for this prime location," said Downtown Memphis Commission President Paul Young.

The Hard Rock Cafe did not respond to a request for additional information Thursday.

Once the Memphis location closes this summer, there will be two other Hard Rock Cafes in Tennessee, one in Nashville and one in Pigeon Forge.

Hard Rock Hotels has been in discussion with Memphis officials about bringing a hotel property to Downtown. Hard Rock Hotels and Hard Rock Cafes are separate entities under the Hard Rock International company.
