Is This Hardboiled Egg Trick Totally Genius Or Totally Revolting?

I can only eat eggs exactly the way I like them, which is scrambled. Scrambled into an omelet, scrambled on a sandwich, scrambled with some cheese? I'm there. It's not logical, but most every other style of cooking eggs really grosses me out, from sunny-side up (so runny!) to poached (what is that texture?!) to hardboiled or deviled (that smell!). So when I saw the photos above, of a banana-like tube of hardboiled eggs, I made a face like the about-to-puke emoji. 🤢

The pics come from a post in an Instant Pot Community Facebook group, where users share recipes and techniques for the beloved kitchen appliance. It was spotted by writer Marshall Bright (who, like me, seems to find this particular usage of the Pot horrifying).

But it turns out that actually, what's happening in these photos is... kind of genius? A follower of the Facebook group posted the pics to explain her technique for making a bunch of hardboiled eggs at once. She pours a dozen raw eggs into a piece of equipment like a Jell-O mold (coating it with nonstick spray first), cooks on high for a few minutes in her Instant Pot, and then slides them out carefully. Boom! A nightmarish circle of eggs that can then be chopped up into an egg salad, or sliced for a salad or sandwich.

When asked for their opinions on the safety or efficiency of this technique, the Delish food team was befuddled, then shrugged their shoulders in a "seems like it could work, sure" type gesture. The 250+ comments on the post were mostly positive, as other Instant Pot fans shared how they would tweak the method or how they already do something similar.

Some followers called the approach "brilliant" while another said, "This makes me uncomfortable." Well, I can tell you into which camp I fall! It's freaking me out, man! Try it out if you'd like to make a dozen hardboiled eggs, but please just do it far away from me.
