‘I hardly know Cindy McCain’: Trump slams widow of former senator for endorsing Biden

Looks like President Trump is “not a fan” of Sen. John McCain’s widow, either.

Trump lashed out at Cindy McCain Wednesday after she endorsed Democratic rival Joe Biden and declined to back the Republican candidate for Senate in her battleground home state of Arizona.

“Never a fan of John. Cindy can have Sleepy Joe!” Trump tweeted.

Trump called Biden “John McCain’s lapdog" and blamed both men for being responsible for engineering “Endless Wars,” even though Biden and President Obama effectively ended the unpopular war in Iraq.

The president also took credit for turning around the Veterans Administration “from a horror show to HIGH APPROVAL.” Trump regularly falsely claims that he enacted a popular health measure called Veterans Choice, which was actually spearheaded by McCain and signed into law by Obama.

Cindy McCain backed Biden in an emotional post recalling her late war hero hubby’s patriotism.

“My husband John lived by a code: country first. We are Republicans, yes, but Americans foremost," Cindy McCain wrote.

The widow discussed her difficult decision to speak out in her late husband’s name Wednesday morning.

“John would have been certainly upset about the direction the country’s going," Cindy McCain told NBC News. "I hope he’s happy with what I’m doing and believes that I’ve done the right thing. That’s all I can ask for.”

Besides reigniting the McCains' famous feud with Trump, Cindy McCain’s backing of Biden could prove a crucial factor in the coming election.

The McCain name remains a potent force in their battleground home state of Arizona, where polls have already shown Biden holding a consistent and strong lead over Trump.

Cindy McCain also pointedly refused to back Sen. Martha McSally (R-Ariz.) in her bid for reelection, in which she trails former astronaut Mark Kelly. McSally was appointed to fill John McCain’s seat when he died of brain cancer two years ago.
