Dec. 1—Hobby Lobby coming to Abingdon

Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc., which is a privately held national retail chain of craft and home decor stores, has announced plans to open its first Harford County store in Abingdon. The store will be located in the space formerly occupied by Gabe's Department Store in the Constant Friendship Shopping Center on Emmorton Road.

The Abingdon store is projected to open in early January. The location will bring about 35 — 50 jobs to the community paying $18.50 per hour for full-time and $13.00 per hour for part-time associates, according to a company news release.

"Once you visit Hobby Lobby, you will see that we are very unique, offering the widest variety of merchandise in the craft and home decor market under one roof," said Kelly Black, assistant vice president of advertising "We're tremendously excited about becoming a part of the Abingdon community."

New Aldi's opening

Aldi supermarket is opening its latest store in Abingdon, which will be Aldi's fourth supermarket in Harford County, at the Constant Friendship Shopping Center on Emmorton Road.

The grocery store will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday at 8 a.m. The first 100 customers will get a gift bag and be entered into a sweepstakes for a chance to win a $500 gift card.

The store will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Free Wendy's promo

As part of the Flynn Restaurant Group's nationwide remodel project, the company is holding a free food giveaway at its local Wendy's restaurants. The first 100 customers in line at 10:30 a.m. when the dining room opens will win a VIP ticket for free food for a year with a purchase.
