Mar. 9—Harford Mutual Insurance Group in Bel Air announced on March 2 its plan to merge with ClearPath Mutual Insurance Co.

ClearPath Mutual is a workers' compensation carrier in Louisville, Kentucky, that provides workers' compensation coverage in Indiana, Kentucky, Georgia, Tennessee and West Virginia.

"ClearPath Mutual perfectly complements our product line offering while expediting our plans for geographic diversification," Steve Linkous, president of Harford Mutual Insurance Group, said in a news release. "We look forward to welcoming ClearPath's employees, agents and policyholders into Harford Mutual as we fulfill our mutual vision of being a carrier of choice."

ClearPath writes more than $52 million in direct written premium across nearly 7,000 policies, the release said. ClearPath will continue to operate under its company name, and the office in Louisville will remain and serve as Harford Mutual Insurance Group's Midwest regional office.

The transaction is expected to close once customary reviews and approvals are received.

"Since 2018, the mission of the ClearPath board and leadership has been to chart a path to sustainable success," Jeff Borkowski, president of ClearPath Mutual, said in the release. "This merger into Harford Mutual Insurance Group will provide us with the scalable infrastructure and regional reach to meet our strategic goals of providing community-first workers' compensation coverage to our policyholders."
