Obsession's Richard Armitage is Maya's dead husband Joe, while Back to Life star Adeel Akhtar plays Sami, the detective who leads the investigation into Joe's untimely death.

"Harlan Coben's Fool Me Once follows Maya Stern (Michelle Keegan) who is trying to come to terms with the brutal murder of her husband, Joe (Richard Armitage). But when Maya installs a nanny-cam to keep an eye on her young daughter, she is shocked to see a man she recognises in her house. Her husband, who she thought was dead..." reads an official synopsis for the series.

"Detective Sergeant Sami Kierce (Adeel Akhtar) leads the homicide investigation into Joe's death while grappling with secrets of his own. Meanwhile, Maya's niece and nephew, Abby and Daniel, are trying to find the truth about their mother's murder, several months earlier. Are the two cases connected?"

Fool Me Once also stars Joanna Lumley as Judith, Joe's overly-protective mother, as well as Peaky Blinders' Emmett J. Scanlen and Dino Fetscher.

Ahead of the show's release, Coben recently praised Keegan for her performance as Maya.

"She's terrific. She's also just a great person, but to have her as your number one and be able to bring, every day, something positive to set, everyone loved her," he told Radio Times. "She's exactly what you think she's going to be. She's really great.

"I knew a bit about her beforehand, but obviously I don't know her as well as my British counterparts. I took a deep dive when we were discussing who to play the role, and she really delivered — she works so hard and she's also just a delight on set."

Fool Me Once premieres on Netflix on January 1.
