Harley-Allendale-Columbia, Irondequoit, Fairport win Section V volleyball titles

Harley-Allendale-Columbia didn't want another "heartbreaking" end to its season.

So the Wolves worked hard to achieve the team goals they set in August.

H-A-C achieved their latest goal Saturday at Avon, when the top-seeded Wolves beat No. 2 Lecthworth in straight sets for the Section V Class D1 title.

H-A-C coach Amy Colosimo's Wolves (21-0) won the program's first title since 2019. Seniors Tori Colosimo, Izzy Martino, Lilah Costanzo and Catherine Alexis played on that 2019 team, as well as last year's squad that entered the final unbeaten before falling to Pavilion.

"We were working for this," coach Colosimo said. "It's a really good group. They have a lot of bad memories from last year's finals. They were ready. This is what we've been working for all season."

Overcoming obstacles

If H-A-C wants to advance into the state tournament, the Wolves will have to tighten up their serving.

H-A-C missed about 20 serves, coach Colosimo said, including eight in the second set, when the Wolves trailed Letchworth 18-22 before storming back to win 31-29 and take a 2-0 lead.

"They refused to give up," coach Colosimo said. "I just about had a heart attack. Their tenacity to fight back and win, I was so proud of them."

Tori Colosimo paced the offense with 16 assists. She also had seven kills, fives blocks, four aces and nine digs. Alexis added 10 kills and 15 digs. Martino had six kills and three blocks, and Zora Scannell-Rooks had six aces and 10 assists. Costanzo played well defensively with 12 digs, and Adelaide Grace stepped up with six kills.

For Letchworth, Trinity Scott had 10  kills and six aces. Morgan Brace had 17 assists. Jaylene Cole and Reagan Bannister each added 11 digs.

H-A-C advances to Thursday's Class D crossover final, where they'll play the winner of Tuesday's crossover semifinal between Class D2 champion Pavilion and D3 champ Batavia Notre Dame.

Lauren Kingsley led Pavilion to a third straight title after beating Cuba Rushford in four sets. Kingsley put down 23 kills. Karlee Zinkievich had 13 kills and 16 digs. Cady Call and Courtney Gurbacki combined for 28 assists.

Batavia Notre Dame dropped C. G. Finney in a tight 25-13, 23-25, 25-23, 23-25, 15-13 five-set victory to win the D3 final. D3 MVP Maggie Monachino posted 24 assists, six digs and went 19-for-20 from the service line for the winners. Amelia McCulley had 16 kills and nine blocks. Allstar Sonji Warner had 10 kills. Notre Dame's Carolyn Babcock was honored as D3's Coach of the Year.

Tuesday's Class C crossover final will feature Midlakes and LeRoy.

In the C2 final, No. 1 LeRoy beat No. 2 East Rochester in four sets to capture back-to-back section crowns. Allie Ingles, the Class C2 MVP, had 17 kills in the win. Dana Reschke paced the offense with 39 assists. Katie Salphine had 13 kills and seven blocks. Sophia Braun had five aces and seven digs. LeRoy coach Susan Staba was named Coach of the Year.

The C1 final was a marathon, but No. 2 Midlakes mounted a come-from-behind victory to beat No. 1 Aquinas in five sets.
