Harnett man alleged to have shot, injured fiancé arrested in Virginia

Jan. 20—LILLINGTON — A Harnett County man wanted for firing multiple gunshots into his fiancé's car Wednesday was arrested in Virginia when he tried to flee from authorities.

A report of an assault was called into the Harnett County 911 Center at 8:51 p.m., according to a Sheriff's Office news release. Deputies responded to the Food Lion store in a small shopping center on Ray Road in the Overhills area.

The victim, Chelsea Ling Chung, 29, and her child were founding in the bathroom of the China Star restaurant, the release said. Chung told deputies that her boyfriend, Brandon Allen Amos-Dixon, 25, had fired shots in her vehicle while she and her child were inside attempting to leave a home in the 1200 block of Hayes Road in Spring Lake, the release said.

Chung was injured but was reported to be in stable condition Thursday at an identified hospital. Her children had superficial injuries, authorities said.

Amos-Dixon fled from Harnett County and was found by authorities about 6 a.m. Thursday inside his pickup truck parked in a rest area on I-77 North in Bland County, according to multiple media outlets.

The area is in Southwest Virginia near the West Virginia border.,

Bland County authorities and Virginia State Police had received an alert that Amos-Dixon was being sought.

As troopers approached the pickup truck at the rest area, Amos-Dixon sped away, traveling north on I-77. Lawmen gave chase up the interstate.

At one point, Amos-Dixon rammed his truck into a Virginia State Police vehicle, multiple Virginia media outlets reported. The trooper was not injured.

Amos-Dixon exited the highway onto secondary roads and crashed his vehicle on a road in Bastian, Virginia, and fled on foot.

Troopers set a perimeter and began searching for Amos-Dixon.

An alert was issued to community residents advising them to stay in their homes and Bland County schools were put on lockdown until 12:05 p.m. Thursday, shortly after Amos-Dixon was taken into custody.

He is being held without bail in the New River Valley Regional Jail.

Virginia authorities have charged him with being a fugitive from justice, felony assault on a police officer, eluding police and reckless driving.

Harnett County authorities have issued warrants for Amos-Dixon. When they are served, he will be charged with 10 counts of shooting into an occupied vehicle and two counts each of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

It is not known when Amos-Dixon will return to North Carolina.
