Harris, Lady Panthers roll

Mar. 20—DENVER — Hibriten's soccer team rolled over Monroe Central Academy 6-0 in last Saturday's East Lincoln Invitational at David Clark Field.

Freshman Avery Harris spearheaded the Lady Panthers (3-3-1) with three goals. Addy Kidder booted two goals, and the senior dished out a pair of assists.

Sophomore Bella Hawkins delivered a goal and an assist. Lily Jones, a senior, recorded an assist.

Hibriten held a 2-0 halftime advantage. Central dropped to 2-5.

Rylee Conard, the senior goalkeeper, recorded three saves. Freshman goalie Sydney Watkins got two.

The Lady Panthers return home for Tuesday night's visit from undefeated Asheville (6-0). Action gets underway at 7.

Story Shines

SWANNANOA — Hibriten senior Katie Story is continuing her impressive play on the basketball court in the postseason.

The slashing point guard cut loose for 12 points in Saturday night's Western North Carolina All-Star Game at Warren Wilson College.

Story, who guided the Lady Panthers to the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference championship and second round run into the state playoffs, will continue her career at Belmont Abbey College.

Brown Wins

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Hibriten junior Jada Brown won the girls' long jump last Saturday at the Adidas Indoor Track Nationals.

Brown leaped 18 feet, 4 1/2 inches at the Virginia Beach Sports Center. The multi-sport star finished third place in the North Carolina state indoor meet last month.

Bowman Honored

CHAPEL HILL — Abby Bowman, West Caldwell's standout softball player, was recently honored with OrthoCarolina's Performance Of The Week for her achievements on the diamond the week of March 6-11.

The sophomore hurled three straight shutouts in leading West to the 6-0 start. In 11 innings of work in the circle, Bowman struck out 27 and yielded but one walk and six hits.

At the plate, Bowman batted 6 for 10 with five RBIs and four runs scored.
