There’s a new Harris Teeter and hotel in Lake Wylie. Here’s what we know so far.

A new Harris Teeter grocery store, a Sleep Inn hotel and an assisted living site may come to Lake Wylie.

York County Councilwoman Allison Love sent a recent email to constituents mentioning each project. Love wrote Harris Teeter is considering a new spot in the Five Points area but that the company hadn’t submitted official plans to the county. She also noted a proposed Sleep Inn on Vesla Lane, behind Dunkin’, and clearing beside the Lake Wylie Chamber of Commerce office for an assisted living facility.

Love said Friday there still aren’t submitted plans for the Harris Teeter, and she wasn’t sure how far along Sleep Inn plans are.

Shell Hospitality out of Charlotte owns the 338 Vesla Lane Sleep Inn & Suites site behind Dunkin’ and Taco Bell, just off S.C. 49 or Charlotte Highway. County records show civil construction plans were submitted in May and are under county review. A traffic impact analysis already has been approved. Sketch plans have been submitted but aren’t yet approved. Campco Engineering is involved with the project.

The Vesla Lane property is almost 2 acres. It also has frontage on Carroll Cove Road.

Beside the chamber of commerce, Cary, North Carolina-based Sunflower Springs ALF of Lake Wylie owns more than 4 acres. The company bought the property, per county land records, from Lake Wylie Business Centre in 2021 for $750,000. There are multiple Sunflower Springs assisted living facilities for seniors, including one in Indian Land.

County records show applications for a 98-bed facility there.

Love said the Harris Teeter plans, with none submitted so far, involve Five Points. That’s the hub area between the S.C. 49 corridor and much of the rest of York County. Charlotte and Hands Mill highways come together there with Lake Wylie Road and S.C. 55. The now stubbed Five Points Court, which used to join the intersection as Charlotte Highway, helped lend the Five Points name.

Turns at the intersection lead Lake Wylie drivers to Rock Hill, York or Clover.

Most property directly on the intersection is developed, but not all of it. A large, 33-acre piece of property owned by New Center Development sits on the S.C. 55 side. Another 18 acres just off the intersection on Five Points Court belongs to a New York company, and beside it there’s another 12 acres belonging to Lake Wylie Associates. Down Lake Wylie Road, there’s a mostly undeveloped property at more than 100 acres.

County records don’t yet show an application for a Harris Teeter in that area.
