Harris Teeter window hit by gunfire during shootout

A Harris Teeter in Charlotte was hit by gunfire following a shootout nearby last Friday, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Police said it happened around 12 p.m. on Springfield Gardens Drive, which is just south of Idlewild Road.

Officers learned that at least two people with multiple guns were engaged in an apparent shootout.

During the shooting, a window at a Harris Teeter nearby was struck by gunfire, causing damage to the property. Two vehicles were also hit by gunfire.

No injuries have been reported, according to police.

Channel 9′s Almiya White spoke with shoppers at the grocery store following this incidnet.

Thomas Mahlau told White that he shops at the Harris Teeter often. However, he said the shootout isn’t going to stop him from going to the grocery store.

“It’s terrible. No matter where you go, you know, there’s danger out there. How do you go to another store and avoid that? You don’t,” Mahlau said.

He said after glancing at the bullet hole, he couldn’t help but think about where that bullet could have landed.

“Could’ve hurt somebody. Killed somebody. You got to be careful,” Mahlau explained.

Tracy Jackson also said she will continue to shop at the store.

“The only thing I can say about it ... we just have to look out a little bit more but it’s not going to stop me from coming,” Jackson said.
