Harry and Meghan lead star-studded 'Vax Live' concert

The pre-taped outdoor stadium fundraising concert was broadcast and streamed globally on Saturday (May 8).

Vax Live: The Concert to Reunite the World was hosted by singer Selena Gomez and featured performances by Jennifer Lopez, Eddie Vedder, Foo Fighters, H.E.R. and J Balvin, who all performed for an in-person audience of 27,000 fully vaccinated frontline healthcare and essential workers.

According to Global Citizen, the organizers of the event that took place last Sunday (May 2) at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, the concert aimed to encourage people to get vaccinated and to secure new commitments from governments and the private sector toward the equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines worldwide.

Harry took the opportunity to address vaccine hesitancy and also voiced his solidarity with the people of India who are facing a catastrophic second wave of the virus, with cases and deaths hitting record highs every other day.

Ahead of the broadcast, Global Citizen said the concert had raised $302 million in funding that helped procure over 26 million COVID-19 vaccine doses to distribute to the world's most marginalized communities and health care workers in critical need of support.
