Harry Potter star joins new Sherlock Holmes show

Harry Potter's David Thewlis has been cast as Sherlock Holmes in a new series.
In an official announcement from Warner Bros. Discovery, it was confirmed that Mission: Impossible II actor Dougray Scott is also on board as the iconic detective's nemesis Professor Moriarty.
Titled Sherlock & Daughter, this eight-episode thriller sees Holmes "out of his comfort zone, mysteriously unable to investigate a sinister case without risking the lives of his closest friends".

The show's official synopsis continues: "Enter: young American Amelia (played by The New Mutants' Blu Hunt). After her mother's mysterious murder, she learns her missing father may be the legendary detective.
"Despite wildly different backgrounds and attitudes, the pair must work together to solve a global conspiracy, crack her mother's murder and find out for sure if she really is Sherlock's daughter."
Thewlis has previously appeared in a story featuring Sherlock, having portrayed corrupt policeman Grail in Enola Holmes 2.

"Crime is one of the most popular genres across our streaming and linear portfolio and we are excited to broaden with this scripted original featuring such a stellar line up of talent in David Thewlis and Dougray Scott."
Meanwhile, The CW's president of entertainment Brad Schwartz added in his own statement (via TVLine) that "the entire cast and creative team have done a magnificent job putting a new twist on the classic character".
Sherlock & Daughter will air later in 2024, streaming on discovery+ in the UK and Ireland. The CW will air the show in the US.
