Harry Styles Apparently Just Followed Ariana Grande on Instagram
Ariana Grande’s fans have had a lot of new music to celebrate in recent months. From a chart-topping album last summer to a now-iconic music video that paid homage to some of the greatest teen movies of all time, it’s clear that the singer-songwriter has been busy creating plenty of new content. And even with a fifth studio album in the works, some fans think Ariana might be planning a collaboration with another hugely popular artist: Harry Styles.
The rumor began, as so many things do in today’s age, with an Instagram follow. On January 19, eagle-eyed fans noticed that Harry began following Ariana on the social media platform. The move wouldn’t be all that interesting…except for the fact that Harry hasn’t posted a photo in over six months, indicating that he’s not a super-active user on IG (unlike Ariana). His most recent post is dated July 16, 2018, where he documented the conclusion of his debut concert tour with a selfie, writing: “I'm off to write some more music and I hope I'll be seeing you again very soon.”
On Twitter, Arianators have been all over the subtle follow, and many have quickly developed theories about what it could mean. “The last time Harry followed Timothée [Chalamet] on IG we got an interview with both of them . Now Harry followed Ariana,” one fan noted, referring to the November 2018 interview in Vice’s i-D. (OK, that is an excellent point.)
Other fans are simply hopeful that the two stars might become friends…which could also lead to a collab. (After all, we know that Ariana loves to turn her hangouts with friends into songs.)
Of course, it can be argued that Harry and Ariana have already teamed up on music. Ari’s song “Just a Little Bit of Your Heart” from her second studio album My Everything was written by the One Direction singer back in 2014. And while Harry has performed the song in concert, the two pop stars have never formally sung it together. But if some fans’ predictions are correct…all of that might change.
Given that both Harry and Ariana have huge fanbases, a collab between the two would almost certainly break the internet. For now, we’ll have to wait and see what unfolds…but we can always count on savvy fans to theorize every step of the way.
