Yahoo Movies Harry Styles won't be in Disney's The Little Mermaid remake after all
Update (August 14, 2019): As much as we all wanted it to happen, it looks like Harry Styles will not be joining Disney's live-action remake of The Little Mermaid.
The actor-singer has decided to pass on the role of Prince Eric, according to Variety, who added that there were no hard feelings between Harry and the studio.
It does look like we'll find out who's got the part soon, though, with an announcement apparently due shortly.
Original (July 17, 2019): Given how impressive Harry Styles was in his first major acting performance in 2017's Dunkirk, it's somewhat surprising he's not been in anything since. However, that might be about to change as he's in talks for Disney's live-action remake of The Little Mermaid.
The singer, who lost out on the role of Elvis earlier this week, would voice Prince Eric in the movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. In case you forgot, Eric is the human hunk rescued by mermaid Ariel when he almost drowns at sea and – spoiler warning – the two eventually end up marrying.
Although Eric didn't have any musical moments in the 1989 original animated film (then voiced by Christopher Daniel Barnes), it would be silly of Disney not to take advantage of Styles' singing chops.

Mary Poppins Returns star Lin-Manuel Miranda is working with composer Alan Menken on some new songs for the movie's soundtrack, and given that the actress playing Ariel – Halle Bailey – is one half of R&B duo Chloe x Halle, we've got chills just thinking about her and Styles teaming up.
The remake is being directed by Mary Poppins Returns' Rob Marshall. 12-year-old Room star Jacob Tremblay, Crazy Rich Asians actress and comic Awkwafina, and Melissa McCarthy are all apparently lined up to appear in the movie too.
Disney is yet to announce a release date for The Little Mermaid.
