Harry Thomas re-elected to San Angelo City Council, according to unofficial results
Harold "Harry" Thomas has be re-elected his seat with the San Angelo City Council, according to unofficial results from Saturday, May 6, 2023 election.
A general election was for City Council members for single-member districts 1, 3 and 5 to be elected to four-year terms.
Tommy Hiebert (District 1) and Karen Hesse Smith (District 5) were running unopposed. The current council member Harry Thomas was challenged by Michael LePak for District 3.
Unofficial results were released showing Thomas winning with 99 votes and LePak with 56.
There was also be a special election on the ballot regarding certain sections of the chief of police portion of the City's charter.
"The Charter Review Committee presented its recommendations Dec. 13 to the City Council," according to the City of San Angelo website. "The committee recommended the City keep the police chief as an elected position, but to make changes to the qualifications and authority while also realigning the election cycle."
The ballot had a proposition for the "qualifications" portion of the job to include supervisory experience and an educational component where people could vote for or against.
The unofficial results showed 786 votes for the proposition and 342 against it.
There are also unofficial results for the Grape Creek ISD District Trustees, Wall ISD District Board of Trustees and Lipan-Kickapoo Water Conservation District that can be viewed online at tomgreencountytx.gov.
