Hartville Council approves fiscal officer contract

Highlights of March 27 meeting of Hartville Village Council:

KEY ACTION: Approved a one-year, $1,762-per-week contract with Varney, Fink and Associates to act as village fiscal officer.

DISCUSSION: The contract was approved by a 3-2 vote with council members Frank Gant, Tim Hayden and Jim Sullivan voting yes, and Bev Green and Steve Reisch voting no. Shari Chambers was absent.

Some members had previously expressed concern with the contract’s 6.5% cost increase over the 2022 contract with the firm. Fiscal Officer Scott Varney noted the raise was necessary because the increase in 2022 from 2021 was only 1.3%.

OTHER ACTION:

• Approved a sewer tap-in request from a property owner at 1100 Lake Center St. NW at the owner’s expense.
