Harvey Weinstein reaches potential $44 million compensation deal for sexual misconduct accusers

Over 18 months after allegations against Harvey Weinstein first surfaced, a financial deal has reportedly been reached between the former Hollywood producer and his accusers.
According to reports in The Guardian and the Wall Street Journal, Weinstein has reached a "tentative" $44 million deal to resolve lawsuits and compensate his alleged victims of sexual misconduct.
The deal, which is said to have been agreed "in principle" according to the Wall Street Journal's report, has also been reached with members of Weinstein's former film studio board and the New York attorney general's office.
Over 15 lawsuits have been filed accusing Weinstein or his company of misconduct since 2017, including claims of sexual harassment and sexual assault. The likes of Kate Winslet, Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, Rose McGowan, and Lupita Nyong'o have also spoken out publicly about their own experiences in the industry.

Harvey Weinstein, who has "unequivocally denied" all allegations of non-consensual sex made against him, still faces criminal charges of rape and a criminal sexual act.
In June of last year, Weinstein pleaded not guilty to the counts at an appearance at the New York Supreme Court.
Rose McGowan, an accuser of Weinstein, has previously expressed doubt that Weinstein "will ever be prosecuted" over the allegations he faces.
"I think you have to understand the judicial system is completely stacked against victims in any way, shape or form, in that most people cannot in fact seek justice that way," she argued last year.
"I think there should be specially trained police officers, and justices, and judges, that are specifically trained in sexual assault, sexual harassment and abuse, so they can understand it more."
