Hatchets fall to Bosse

Dec. 17—EVANSVILLE — Washington dropped its third straight game with a 68-56 loss at Evansville Bosse on Friday.

In the Hatchets initial road trip of the season, Washington (2-3) kept pace with Evansville Bosse (5-2) early but still trailed 18-14 after one quarter. Bosse outscored the Hatchets 19-10 in the second quarter to forge a 37-24 halftime edge. Washington cut the margin to seven points at 42-35 midway through the third quarter on a basket by Zach Mann, who netted 10 points for the Hatchets, but the Bulldogs outscored WHS 11-4 the rest of the way to take a 53-39 lead after three quarters. The lead reached as many as 21 points in the fourth quarter before Bosse settled for the 12-point win.

Washington coach Gene Miiller credited Bosse's physicality and aggressiveness as keys to the win. The Bulldogs outrebounded Washington 32-23. Included in that figure were 16 Bosse offensive rebounds compared to just three offensive boards for the Hatchets, and Bosse forced 14 Hatchet turnovers while committing just six miscues. Bosse also went to the free throw line 23 times, connecting on 17 charity tosses while WHS was just 3-5 from the stripe.

"We use got beat by a team that was much more physical and much more aggressive than we were. Too many times we gave them second and third opportunities," said Miiller. "They got every loose ball. They were just more physical and more aggressive, their pressure bothered us early in the ballgame."

Brycen Neidigh led WHS with 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. Mann was next with 10, followed by seven from Cooper Wright. Kordel Turner added six points, followed by five each from Colton Stowers and Jayden Meredith. Kenny Levassuer added a 3-pointer for three points, followed by two points apiece from Olsen Kroeger, Brant Neidigh, Dalton Thurston, and Peyton Miles.

Taray Howell paced four Bulldogs in double figures with 18 points, followed by 14 points from Ashton Smallwood, 12 from Jace Banks, and 10 points from Elijah Wagner.

Washington hosted Tell City on Saturday.
