Haughton’s Jase White earns Bassmaster All-State recognition for LHSAA fishing

Haughton senior Jase White was recently bestowed one of the top honors awarded by the Bassmaster organization.

White was one of 52 high school anglers nationally, and one of two in Louisiana, to be named to the 2023 Bassmaster High School All-State Fishing Team. The students were selected for the honor based on their success in tournament competition, academic achievement and leadership in conservation and community service.

“It’s goal of mine to make that team every year,” White told The Times. “I set goals for myself every year for fishing and making the All-American team has been my ultimate goal for years, and making the All-State team is the first step towards that. I’ve been blessed to have a very successful young career and this achievement is just one of the great results of all the hard work I’ve put in over the years.”

Candidates for All-State must have at least a 2.5 GPA; White carries a 4.27 GPA with a 29 on the ACT.

“I’ve been blessed to have a very successful tournament career and I’ve had great results over the past few years,” White said. “My work in the community and local conservation efforts that led to me winning the Haughton High School Student of the Year also had a large factor in my selection for the All-State team.”

The Bass Anglers Sportsman Society (B.A.S.S.) received more than 300 nominations, and the 52 All-State selections come from 30 states. Another 42 were honorable mention selections.

A second panel of judges will narrow the All-State list to 12 for the Bassmaster High School All-American team. Those finalists finalists will compete in a one-day tournament during the Bassmaster Elite Series event, June 1-4 on the Sabine River in Orange, Texas.

Elite Series anglers will serve as teammates and “coaches” of the students, who will be honored on the main stage at the weigh-in.
