Haunt Your House kicks off Halloween fun in Superior

Oct. 24—SUPERIOR — For those looking for skeletons with shovels, dancing ghost dogs, tombstones, a sidewalk lined with creepy dolls and other Halloween-themed yard decorations, Superior has it covered.

The participants in the annual "Haunt Your House" tour of homes are serving up a wide variety of Halloween decor, and everyone is invited to join in the fun. Passersby are encouraged to "Feed the Zombies" at one yard; another has a pair of menacing mannequins keeping watch from the back porch, wielding knives. Ghosts? Check. Pirate skeletons? Check. A haunted tree? Check.

The tour of homes, in which people can drive by to see the decorations, then vote online for their favorites, is part of the ninth annual Superior Spooktacular celebration. The homes were announced Thursday, Oct. 19, with a full list available on the

Superior Spooktacular Facebook page.

The Superior Spooktacular was created in 2015 as a collaboration between the Superior Business Improvement District and Sterling Silver Studio, in an effort to provide a family friendly festival for the community to enjoy during the Halloween season. Since then, the event has expanded to a celebration that takes place several days in October and encourages celebration throughout the entire city.

Homeowners in Superior go all out to decorate their homes for Halloween, and citizens can take a self-guided driving tour throughout to view the displays. Although there is a little friendly competition involved, the event was designed to give people the opportunity to tour the city and celebrate the festivities. Citizens who want to take part in selecting their favorite home can vote for their choice online through Facebook. People who take the tour in person can participate in the "Selfie" contest and submit a photo of themselves in front of their favorite home on the Facebook page.
