George School Ghost of Middletown

Located in Middletown, the prestigious George School has no need for paranormal publicity. Yet some of its most accredited educators claim to have seen impossible things on campus.

Only adding to such speculation, a book claims a body is buried under the Tate House, a faculty residence.

The 1992 book "George School: The History of a Quaker Community" suggests the Tate building is haunted by a Hessian soldier who was buried there. (Hessians were German mercenaries hired by the British during the Revolutionary War.)

According to the book, Dr. James Tate was a physician and an officer in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. The doctor reportedly obtained and brought home the body of a Hessian soldier who died on the battlefield. "After dissecting it, he buried the remains in the cellar."

One teacher reported waking up in the middle of the night to the specter of a man standing in her bedroom. The figure wore a coat with shiny buttons and had long hair tied back in a ponytail.

In 2015, paranormal investigators spent an evening at Temperance House with cameras rolling. One series of footage appeared to show the visage of a man floating up through the ceiling.

Haunted Lane in Bensalem

Mist creeps up from the banks of the Neshaminy Creek when it meets the Delaware River. Residents of nearby single-family home report seeing strange balls of light. Others claim to hear horses gallop down Haunted Lane.

Less than a mile in length, Haunted Lane connects Bristol Pike to State Road at Neshaminy State Park. In the 1950s, township officials considered changing the name and some residents objected.

According to reports published at the time, Haunted Lane was once home to an abandoned mansion. Others said the roadway was haunted by the ghost of a young woman searching for two lost children.
