Haunted Forest, other scout events fill list of events for kids in Abilene area

Wow, there’s a lot going on the next couple of weeks; just check the “upcoming events” list below. I even had to leave off a few interesting things coming up over the next couple of weeks.

Probably the highlight will be Haunted Forest at Camp Tonkawa. This annual Cub Scout family event draws hundreds of people to the camp from as far away as Lampasas, the southern end of Texas Trails Council.

Participants can enjoy ziplines, hay rides, carnival-style midway, bounce houses, a nighttime movie – and a haunted trail and/or haunted house. There’s also a good possibility of BB and/or archery ranges.

The theme is Abandoned Mine, and groups are encouraged to bring theme-suitable decorations for their campsites.

Two important things to note: There is a maximum family charge of $120 for five or more family members (immediate family only). And all persons attending who are not registered with Boy Scouts of America must provide a “hold harmless” agreement form upon arrival. You can download the form at texastrailsbsa.com; look on the left side near the bottom for the Haunted Forest event.
