Celebrate 60 seasons of the Falmouth Chorale

The Falmouth Chorale opens its 60th season with a two-night production of “Is Not His Word Like a Fire: ‘The Cry of Jeremiah’ and ‘Five Mystical Songs’” on Oct. 21 and 22.

“Five Mystical Songs” is British composer Ralph Vaughan William’s musical composition of some of Shakespearian-era poet George Herbert’s most illustrious works. The piece depicts Herbert’s theme of religion and its practices as a personal venture rather than a formal or institutional one. Narration for this work will be given by baritone Richard Giarusso.

“The Cry of Jeremiah” by Rosephanye Powell pairs readings from chapter 20 of Jeremiah, performed by Mindy Todd, with choral composition to illustrate a person’s battle with religion and worthiness in the hands of God. The Chorale’s performance of this work will be the first time the group has performed a full-length choral work by a female composer.

Tickets are $25 online at www.falmouthchorale.org/, or $35 at the door. Students get in for $5. Advance tickets are also available at Eight Cousins Books in Falmouth, Titcomb’s Bookshop in East Sandwich, Uncle Bill’s Country Store in North Falmouth and Market Street Bookshop at the Mashpee Commons.

The show will be performed at the First Congregational Church, 68 Main St., Falmouth. Show time is at 3 p.m. on both days.
