From haunted hikes to renaissance fairs, 10 Centre County events not to miss in October

It’s officially spooky season! As Halloween approaches and fall settles in, everything from haunted hikes to pumpkin patches are starting up in Centre County.

The Centre Daily Times has compiled a list of ten October events you won’t want to miss.

Haunted Lake Loop Hike

7 p.m. Oct. 1 at Black Moshannon State Park, 4216 Beaver Road, Philipsburg

If you’re looking for a good scare to start off October, head to Black Moshannon State Park for the Haunted Lake Loop Hike. After the hike, candy and s’mores will be available during a campfire on the beach. The hike is a 3/4-mile loop so be sure to bring sturdy shoes.

Titan Market’s 2nd Anniversary Harvest Fest

9 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 30-Oct. 1 at Titan Market, 2042 Axemann Road, Bellefonte

Titan Market will celebrate its second anniversary with a harvest festival that features vendors, food, music and more.

Cirque de Halloween

7-9 p.m. Oct. 8, at 118 Hawbaker Industrial Drive in Patton Township

The Phoenix Academy of Performing Arts of Pennsylvania is hosting an original performance of “Le Cirque d’Halloween.” The circus arts show will include fire dancing, acrobatics and aerial performances by Cirque Phoenix. The event will be held at the Phoenix Academy with tickets for the event available online or at the door.

Happy Valley Latin Festival

11 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 8 at Martin Luther King Jr. Plaza in downtown State College

Celebrate Hispanic and Latin heritage with live music, food and arts in downtown State College. Several local businesses are sponsoring the event including Juana’s, Oak Spring Farms, Chumley’s and the Penn State Department of Spanish, Italian and Portuguese.

Wasson Farm Fall Fest

10 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 1-2, 8-9 and 15-16 at 2545 Shingletown Road in State College

All your fall favorites are at Wasson Farm for the three-weekend festival, including hayrides, pumpkin patches, a corn maze and more. The farm is cash or check only so be prepared if you want to buy some of the homemade Amish baked goods or an apple cider slushie.

Boalsburg Renaissance Faire

11 a.m.-6 p.m. Oct. 9 at Columbus Chapel and Boal Mansion Museum

Feeling nostalgic for the past? Missing the days of knights, kings and queens? Head to the Boalsburg Renaissance Faire, full of period actors, sword fighting, horses, live music and artisans. The fair’s inspiration comes from the Boal family’s European ancestry, which visitors can learn about during special museum tours at the event.

‘Rock and Roll’ Flower Show

4:15-6:30 p.m. Oct. 10 at Wyndham Garden State College Hotel, 310 Elks Club Road, Boalsburg

The Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania’s State College Council is hosting a flower show centered around everyone’s favorite rock artists. Artists will create floral arrangements based on songs like “Twist and Shout” by the Beatles, “Jailhouse Rock” by Elvis Presley and more.

Downtown Fall Fest

10 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 15, downtown State College

Allen Street will be transformed into a pumpkin patch for this October event in State College. Food vendors, pony rides, and a bounce house will fill the street for families to enjoy. The Happy Valley Adventure Bureau is sponsoring the event which will feature a puppet show, dance workshop, live music and more.

Punkin’ Chunkin’ Fall Festival

10 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 22 at Bald Eagle State Park, 149 Main Park Road, Howard

Watch out for flying pumpkin as the Howard Fire Company hosts its annual fundraiser. There will be games, hayrides, a pumpkin pie eating contest and yes, pumpkins being catapulted into the lake.

Talleyrand Halloween Parade

11 a.m. Oct. 29 starting at Bellefonte Elementary, 100 W. Linn St., Bellefonte

Bellefonte’s Halloween Parade will start at Bellefonte Elementary and end at Talleyrand Park. Families can enjoy games, hayrides and local vendors. A craft beverage tent will be available for adults over 21.
