This haunted theater will live up to its rumors come October

Popcorn in hand, you head down the wide hallway to your screening room. You hear voices behind you —- the lights flicker and a door slams. The theater you are in has a history of being haunted. For the month of October, these rumors will come to life.

The Birmingham 8 Emagine Theatre will be converted into an immersive haunted theater attraction. Their partnership with Bluewater will transform 11 different spaces of the historic theater into haunted Victorian-era experiences. Some areas of the aging building have been unseen by the public prior to the event's opening.

The location was once a playhouse built in 1927 — until it was remodeled to a movie theater in the 1980s. Reports of paranormal activity have compiled over the years: Employees have felt an uneasy presence while working fearfully throughout the building.

The areas of the attraction will be specifically themed and staffed with professional scare actors. Concessions and adult beverages will be available at stands throughout the theater.

The attraction is told through the lens of the experienced theater proprietor "Mr. Baldwin." A chilling tale of a movie theater murder lets the "Ghosts on the Balcony" spook you to the bone.

“We are very excited to continue to innovate and bring this brand-new experience to our guests,” Anthony LaVerde, CEO of Emagine Entertainment, said in a news release.

“Along with Bluewater, we are designing what we believe to be the best haunted experience in metro Detroit. We are sparing no expense to create a fully immersive experience that will delight and terrify all who dare to enter.”

Movie showings will be halted from Oct. 1-30 while the event is going on.

Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays will feature a family friendly haunt for ages 5-12 from 2 p.m. to p.m.

For ages 13 and over, an adult haunt will run Sundays through Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. Tickets for the family friendly event are $20, and the adult scare tickets are $30.

"The history of this building and the vision of the Emagine team to create such a memorable experience, is the perfect canvas for our team to create a haunted destination that will play with your mind and have you seeing things that may or may not be there," Scott Schoeneberger, managing partner of Bluewater, said in a news release.

“We’re excited at the potential for future seasonal experiences in this space as well.”
