What does a $300,000 investment into a new cell phone tower get you? Upgraded services.

Havelock residents will soon benefit from the upgrade as UScellular is investing the money into a new cell tower for customers in southern Craven County.

The site enhances UScellular’s 5G network in and around the Havelock community and is one of more than 700 sites the wireless carrier has across the state.

5G service provides faster data speeds, seamless video chatting and a more responsive mobile experience, according to a news release from the company.

“At UScellular we focus on providing an exceptional customer experience and a fast, reliable network to keep our customers here in Craven County connected to their friends and family,” said Jeremy Taylor, director of sales for UScellular in eastern North Carolina.

In 2021, the company invested $192.6 million investment in its North Carolina network. That included $29 million in generalnetwork upgrades, $45.4 million in 5G modernization and $118.2 million in 5G spectrum, which is expected to bring additional benefits in the coming years and will advance the company’s multi-year 5G network strategy.

“Our engineers live and work here in eastern North Carolina and monitor the network around the clock to ensure that it keeps up with the needs of our customers.”
