New Haven to celebrate clothing store that has ‘national following and celebrity customers’

A New Haven business that has generated “a national following and celebrity customers” will be celebrated by the city’s mayor and numerous others at noon Tuesday, June 7, according to that city’s spokesman.

New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker, city and elected leaders are expected to join business owner LaDrea Moss for a ribbon cutting celebrating the one-year anniversary of Mindless Thoughts Clothing’s location at 1296 State St. in the Cedar Hill neighborhood, according to city spokesman Lenny H. Speiller.

Moss is an Elm City native and graduate of James Hillhouse High School; she founded Mindless Thoughts Clothing in 2012 as an online store, according to Speiller. “As the business grew, Moss decided to open a brick-and-mortar storefront and, in 2020, began restoring a vacant storefront on State Street, previously home to a neighborhood convenience store that burned down,” Speiller said in a statement. “With the support of family and a passionate customer following, Moss opened the store in 2021, but the official ribbon cutting was delayed a year due to the pandemic.”

Speiller said the brand has become a local favorite and has also “attracted a national following and celebrity customers, including Soulja Boy, Young M.A., Dave East, and Iman Shumpert, among others.”

Photographs of “rappers wearing the MTC brand are on display throughout the store,” Speiller said, also noting the clothing line created buzz and has more than 10,000 followers on Instagram.
