New Haven police: 5-year-old grazed by gunfire in weekend shooting
The New Haven Police Department is investigating three weekend shootings that took place in two separate incidents, police said.
In one incident, New Haven police received a 911 call at about 11:04 p.m. Saturday regarding two people shot on Judith Terrace, between Quinnipiac Avenue and the dead-end, according to department spokesman Officer Scott Shumway.
Responding officers found a 26-year-old New Haven man who had been struck by gunfire and a 5-year-old who was grazed by gunfire in the lower leg, Shumway said in an email. American Medical Response took both victims to Yale New Haven, Hospital where the 26-year-old was listed in critical condition and the 5-year-old was listed as stable condition, Shumway said.
“The Bureau of Identification responded to the scene and collected ballistic evidence,” he said in the email.
A few minutes after the Judith Terrace case, at about 11:09 p.m., police received a call from Yale New Haven Hospital reporting that a 32-year-old New Haven man with a gunshot wound had walked into the hospital, according to Shumway. “The victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and was listed in stable condition,” he said.
Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit are leading both investigations, he said.
